Welcome to
The South African Furniture Initiative
SAFI is a joint initiative uniting industry, labour and government with the common interest of promoting employment growth and transformation of the South African Furniture Manufacturing Industry for the benefit of all the stakeholders.
MARKET
ACCESS
We drive demand for locally manufactured furniture by supporting state procurement and promoting exports through the AfCFTA and other global trade agreements. We also ensure access to locally produced raw materials, strengthening our industry's foundation.
SUSTAINABLE RAW MATERIALS
We provide a robust online database of raw material suppliers and insights into local manufacturing capacities. By modelling supply and demand for critical materials, we ensure a reliable and consistent supply to meet future needs.
TRADE INTERVENTIONS
We take action against illegal furniture imports, identify tariff lines for duty rebates, and use trade remedies to prevent uncompetitive imports. Our efforts include customs training, monitoring, and setting industry standards.
MARKET INTELLIGENCE
We are developing a comprehensive data platform to deliver market intelligence and support trade, policy, and investment decisions across the furniture value chain.
SKILL DEVELOPMENT AND TRAINING
We enhance technical skills within the furniture industry, introduce new skills to drive growth and innovation and create career paths for youth that align with the industry’s needs.
